Explore Amsterdam historical center and the Red Light on a Free Walking Tour!

We are a small collective of 3 seasoned local guides, licensed by the municipality of Amsterdam.

A one and a half hour walk around the center of the city, with a professional, friendly and knowledgeable guide that will help you to better understand Amsterdam and it’s people. Historical curiosities and tales, modern culture, personal insight on it’s like to live in heart of the city, and all the recommendations you need to have an unforgettable stay.

    • A free walking tour is a collective walk around the most interesting parts of the city, where the guide will share his knowledge and insight about past, present and possible futures of the place. With a good measure of story telling, interesting and funny facts, and any recomendations or questions asked, it's an easy and entertaining way to expand your understanding of the city and create great memories from your visit.

    • A free walking tour does not have a set price. On average, people tip between 10 and 15 euros per person after the tour, depending on their satisfaction. The guides have expenses with marketing fees, publishing, licensing, insurance and municipal taxes for tours, and the booking is an agreement to tip fairly according to the quality of the tour. It's ESSENTIAL to understand it's NOT FREE OF CHARGE, neither a cheap tour. If you think 10 euros per person is too much even if the tour is good, we recommend looking for self walking tours or audio guides.

    • A free walking tour does not have booking fees, you decide the final price AFTER the tour, and it's far cheaper than pre-paid tour companies (which costs on average 60 per person), and you can expect the guide will give his best in order to impress and amaze the travelers. For the guide is also usually a better deal, as private tour companies pay them a very small commission. That's why today free tours have taken over the industry and changed the way people make walking tours.

  • You'll find the guide 10 minutes earlier waiting with a red umbrella in front of the Cafe In De Waag (Nieuwmarkt 4- 15, 1012 CR Amsterdam, Netherlands).

The tour duration is about 1 hour and 30 minutes, with total of 10 stops in points of interest around the commercial center, Red Light District and in the residential central area. You can check the map bellow for the exact path and stops of the tour.

We will talk about history, modern culture and personal experiences. As we walk the Red Light District, talk about drugs and prostitution, travelers under 18 can only attend in company of their parents.

Don't forget to bring adequate clothes for the weather, comfortable shoes, and to use a toilet before attending, as there are very few public toilets in the city.
